In the early 1900's there was an Italian commune. The women would get together to bake bread every Thursday.

My grandfather raised cattle down there. Anyone could use the land. He lived on Parkview.

Hi Derrek,

I'm sorry to hear you've had an unpleasant experience in the parks. The City of Pittsburgh manages the parks, so please definitely let them know about the wildlife you saw on your recent visit. Try to be as specific as possible in the location you saw the animals so they know where to begin looking.

Trails are great but dogs that are unleashed are not. I have avoided being bit on several occasions. Also not sure if this is known or not but today on my run I saw a couple of wolf-coyote hybrids on the trail chasing down two whitetails by the dog park. I had to take a quick detour for I was in the middle of it. This may need to be looked at?

Hi Marijke,

I just read your inspiring article in Community Works Journal. I was particularly drawn to your comments about the power of reflection after doing great environmental work. Would you be willing to share some of your prompts for that?

Over the past 2 years my students have been identifying and documenting native and invasive plants (using the Vital Signs protocols) in a state park here in Maine. We then cleared out bittersweet in one small location, and have now researched and planted (! last week!) 50 native plants in the area. Its awesome - we're all pumped and proud of ourselves :).

We've done some reflection all along the way, but I totally agree with you that meaningful reflection is KEY to this project having a long term impact on them as people and as stewards.

I'd love to see what you came up with to inspire thoughtful reflection .

THANKS!
