The Parks Conservancy has recently entered into a partnership with Carnegie Mellon’s Entertainment Technology Center. A team of graduate students there is working on an effort sponsored by the Grable Foundation to create the Playground of the Future. Leading up to the design of the playground, the ETC students are sponsoring several activities in the parks to gather ideas for the project.

Part of the idea behind the playground is that active living and engagement with the outdoors is important for all age groups, so this weekend’s activity is a Nature Photography Bingo event for seniors. This Saturday, October 25 at 1:00 p.m., seniors from the community are invited to Frick Park’s Blue Slide Playground area (at the intersection of Beechwood Blvd. and Nicholson St.) for an afternoon of photography. Participants will be given a disposable camera and a bingo board with items found in nature, and can work alone or in groups to photograph the items and complete the boards. At the end of the event, the ETC students will collect the cameras, print the photos, and distribute newsletters, asking participants to judge the photos based on artistic merit. The event will be a fun, active afternoon in the park, and with fall foliage at its peak, a chance to get some great photographs.
Please tell any seniors who might be interested about this event! For more information, call 412-268-3811.
We look forward to providing much more information about the Playground of the Future soon!
